Deputy Injured in Ambush Returns Home from Rehab

Lieutenant David Godfrey of the York County Sheriff's Department has been discharged from WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Godfrey, who was gravely injured in a deadly ambush shooting on September 17 in North Codorus Township, left the hospital on Thursday (October 16) after nearly a month of recovery. The ambush claimed the lives of three Northern York County Regional Police officers: Det. Sgt. Cody Becker, Det. Mark Baker, and Det. Isaiah Emenheiser.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Godfrey was in critical condition, requiring 12 pints of blood to stabilize him. Dr. Joshua Hazelton, a surgeon at WellSpan Health, confirmed the severity of his injuries. Godfrey expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff and the community for their support during his recovery. "It's twofold," Godfrey said. "It's the support of the community, because that has helped so much. And it's the staff at WellSpan."

Godfrey, known for his K-9 demonstrations at the York State Fair, hopes to return to active duty. He paid tribute to his fallen colleagues, stating, "Everything they did, they were awesome at." The ambush occurred while officers were investigating a stalking incident. The suspect was killed during the shootout.

Godfrey's release was marked by a police escort, celebrating his recovery and return home. Another officer injured in the incident has also been released from the hospital. The community continues to mourn the loss of the three officers who died in the line of duty.
