A person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train near Harrisburg International Airport in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday (October 7). The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. when the individual, who was trespassing on the tracks, was hit by a train traveling from New York to Harrisburg.
According to CBS21, the Dauphin County Coroner's Office was called to the scene, and Amtrak is collaborating with law enforcement to investigate the incident. Fortunately, none of the 35 passengers or crew members on board the train were injured. Passengers were transferred to another train to complete their journey.
The incident has led to the cancellation of two Keystone trains, 643 and 648, between Philadelphia and Harrisburg due to equipment unavailability, as reported by CBS 21. However, flights at Harrisburg International Airport remain unaffected.
Amtrak emphasized the importance of safety around train tracks, highlighting that trespassing is a leading cause of rail-related deaths. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details have yet to be released.
