MIKE TYSON v JAKE PAUL: Viewers Were the Losers

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson - Premiere Boxing Championship

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • One moment that did not buffer but fans wished it had: Tyson conducted a locker room interview in a thong.
  • As a comparison, twice as many people watched the 2024 Super Bowl.
  • Ticket revenue for the fight inside AT&T Stadium reached $18 million, which is the most for any fight outside of Las Vegas.

More than 65 million people logged onto Netflix to watch Jake Paul box 58-year-old Mike Tyson. Nearly one-quarter of every Netflix account worldwide (280 million) watched the match. (The Hollywood Reporter)

What many of them saw -- when Netflix was not buffering -- was a dull fight. The streaming service and internet providers had difficulty handling the demand.

Well past midnight on the east coast, Jake Paul won a unanimous decision over Mike Tyson, who fought like a senior citizen. He wore a knee brace to protect his weak leg. Seemed exhausted after the second, two-minute round. And spent most of the fight sucking on his boxing glove like a toddler on a thumb.

Netflix must remedy these technical issues. After the New Year, they will stream WWE’s Monday Night Raw. Plus the NFL awarded Netflix a Christmas Day double-header of games between playoff-bound teams. Kansas City Chiefs meet the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Houston Texans host he Baltimore Ravens. (USA Today)
