JuneteenthHBG Returns for Its 7th Annual Celebration as Pennsylvania Marks 250 Years of American History

Harrisburg, PA — As the nation prepares to commemorate 250 years of American history, Harrisburg is poised to host one of its most meaningful Juneteenth celebrations yet. The Young Professionals of Color, Greater Harrisburg (YPOC), has announced the return of JunenteenthHBG, a week‑long series of events honoring Black history, culture, and community. The 2026 celebration marks a rare convergence of milestones: the country’s semiquincentennial, YPOC’s 10th anniversary, and the seventh year of JuneteenthHBG.

“2026, being a milestone year across so many different historical occasions and events, is the most impactful alignment we could not have planned for,” said Dr. Kimeka Campbell, YPOC Co‑Founder. “The historical significance of 250 years of American history, 10 years of Harrisburg’s YPOC, and our 7th JuneteenthHBG celebration culminates in the most important and impactful commemoration to date.”

Juneteenth, observed nationwide, marks June 19, 1865—the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce freedom to enslaved African Americans, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Pennsylvania’s own legacy of liberation began earlier; in 1780, it became the first state to abolish slavery. JuneteenthHBG honors both histories, positioning the Capital Region as a leading destination for reflection and celebration.

“Showing up for each other and radically reimagining our next chapter—we are built for this moment and all the ones to come,” Campbell added.

More than 10,000 participants are expected to attend this year’s events, themed Built for This Moment: Radically Reimagining Our Next Chapter. Programming spans civic engagement, economic empowerment, cultural celebration, and community wellness.
